Gian Luca Colombo Verduno Pelaverga - Langhe, Piedmont, Italy
Producer's Notes:
Pelaverga is generally the same colour as Nebbiolo but subtly lighter. White pepper aromas are very typical of the grape variety, along with floral notes of rose and lavender, finished with a hint of spice. The wine is very unique and interesting. On the palate: smooth tannins, lighter than his Nebbiolo; great acidity and overall very well balanced.
What We Say:
Pelaverga Piccolo is one of Piedmont's distinctive indigenous grape varieties, cultivated in a very small area around Verduno, Roddi and La Morra. Sourced from Roddi, this expressive wine combines delicate aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry and rose petals with the unmistakable spice of freshly cracked white pepper. The palate is bright and juicy, with lively acidity, supple tannins and layers of red fruit, fresh herbs and savoury spice leading into a persistent, elegant finish.
The grapes are fermented in stainless-steel tanks with prolonged skin maceration of about 22–30 days, and then aged entirely in terracotta vessels for a period that varies by vintage, rather than in traditional oak barrels.
Grape Variety: 100% Pelaverga Piccolo
Style: Red - Dry, light to medium-bodied, aromatic, fresh, lightly structured

A aromatic red beyond Pinot Noir, Gamay or Nebbiolo - a delightful combination of delicacy, freshness and unmistakable peppery character.
