Goyo García Viadero ‘Joven de Viñas Viejas’ Tempranillo - Ribera del Duero, Spain
A beautifully unvarnished take on Ribera del Duero, this “joven”* bottling is anything but simple, drawing depth and character from old vines grown at altitude on sandy, stony soils. It opens with vivid red and black fruit - cherry, raspberry and plum - alongside lifted notes of dried herbs, spice, olive and a subtle earthy, mineral edge. The palate is energetic and finely structured, with bright acidity and a core of pure fruit framed by lightly grippy, natural tannins. Made with minimal intervention - hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts, extended skin maceration and raised entirely in tank with no fining, filtration or added sulphur, it shows a raw, honest expression of place - finishing fresh, savoury, and quietly complex.
* "Joven" means "young" in Spanish - wines with this designation are traditionally bottled straight out of the tank at the earliest possible moment, with no exposure to oak
Grape Variety: Tempranillo (Tinto Fino)
Style: Red – Medium-bodied, fresh, low intervention
Drink Window: Now – 6–8 years
Perfect For: Grilled lamb, charcuterie, roast vegetables, simple rustic dishes
A “joven” in name only - this is old-vine Ribera stripped back to its essence: vibrant, authentic and full of personality.
