Hubert Lignier Monthélie Pinot Noir - Monthélie, Burgundy, France
Producer's Notes:
The robe is generally tender, the Monthélie is open from its youth with aromas of Morello cherries, raspberries, the palate is soft and juicy.
What We Say:
A classic French Pinot Noir that emphasizes fresh red fruit, perfume, finesse, and juicy texture rather than sheer power. The domaine’s Monthelie comes from the Les Duresses and Les Jouères climats and is made to express the appellation's softer, more immediately approachable side. This wine is elegant, fresh and fruit-driven, with cherry and raspberry aromas; bright red fruit rather than darker, heavier fruit. The soft tannins and vibrant red-fruit acidity make it an approachable Pinot.
The grapes are hand-harvested, sorted, and vinified in the cellar with limited intervention. A portion of whole clusters is retained in the domaine's general approach to bring additional balance and complexity. Extraction is gentle, using a combination of punch-downs and pump-overs to build fine, silky tannins. After fermentation, the wine ages for 18 months in French barrels.
