Hubert Lignier 'Aux Poirelot' Bourgogne Aligote - Burgundy, France
Producer's Notes:
A fascinating example of how compelling Aligoté can be when it comes from old vines and a serious Burgundy producer. It comes from a 40-are parcel in Gevrey-Chambertin planted in 1943–44, giving the wine considerably more concentration and depth than the simple, high-acid Aligoté style often associated with the grape. This dry and taut white wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif on its own or accompanied by crème de cassis from Burgundy (Kir), but it also goes very well with seafood or charcuterie.
What We Say:
A dry, crisp, and mineral-driven white Burgundy with greater substance than the appellation's reputation might suggest. The Aligoté's naturally high acidity, combined with the concentration of very old vines, produces something saline, precise, and surprisingly deep. The nose is expressive, with citrus, white fruit, and chalky minerality, and the palate is bright, with mouthwatering acidity leading to a silky, moderately full texture supported by a strong mineral backbone.
