Koehler-Ruprecht Kallstadter Saumagen Riesling Spätlese Trocken - Pfalz, Germany
A benchmark dry Riesling from one of Germany’s most revered traditionalists, this Spätlese Trocken from the iconic Saumagen vineyard delivers remarkable depth, mineral intensity, and old-school Pfalz power. Koehler-Ruprecht works without frills—long fermentations, spontaneous yeasts, large old oak - and the result is a wine of authenticity, focus, and serious ageing potential.
The nose is vivid and complex, showing ripe citrus, white peach, pear skin, and crushed limestone, with hints of herbs and faint smoke. On the palate, it’s taut yet concentrated: medium-bodied with electric acidity, dense fruit, and the unmistakable chalky precision of Saumagen’s limestone-and-marl soils. The finish is long, dry, and deeply mineral, promising years of graceful evolution.
Grape variety: Riesling
Style: Dry, precise, mineral-driven Spätlese Trocken

Energetic, structured, and unmistakably terroir-driven, Koehler-Ruprecht’s Saumagen Spätlese Trocken is a masterclass in traditional Pfalz Riesling.
Additional notes from the Australian importer:
The Saumagen vineyard is one of the most celebrated sites of the Pfalz region. It has calcareous soils on a south-facing slope and delivers wines with especially high minerality and ageing potential. This Spätlese is a selection of healthy grapes showing a golden colour. It spends one night on skins before natural ferment and maturation. In June the following year, those barrels showing the greatest elegance are selected for this blend.
