Mas Coutelou ‘Classe’ Syrah - Languedoc, France

Dark-fruited, supple and unmistakably Coutelou, ‘Classe’ leans into a richer, more grounded expression of southern French Syrah, opening with blackberry, blackcurrant and plum layered over spice, dried herbs and a gently earthy, schist-driven edge. There’s a touch of florality and pepper in the background, but the emphasis here is on depth and texture rather than lift. The palate is generous yet fresh, with silky tannins and a core of ripe fruit balanced by a lively, natural energy, finishing savoury, smooth and quietly structured.

Built as a blend typically led by Syrah with Grenache and a touch of Carignan (or similar depending on vintage), the wine is made from organically farmed fruit and handled with a low-intervention approach - native yeast fermentation, extended maceration and ageing in concrete to preserve purity over oak influence. The result is a wine that feels both rustic and polished, with plenty of character but real drinkability.

Grape Variety: Syrah-led blend (with Grenache, Carignan/Mourvèdre depending on vintage)

Style: Red – Medium to full-bodied, smooth, low intervention

Drink Window: Now – 6–8 years

Perfect For: Lamb, roast beef, duck, mushroom dishes, hearty Mediterranean fare

A beautifully judged Languedoc red - ripe, savoury and full of soul, with just enough polish to keep it dangerously drinkable.
