Peter Lauer ‘No. 16’ Riesling Trocken - Saar, Germany
Producer's Notes:
This dry Riesling is a layered wine from the Peter Lauer winery. Notes of mineral salts, savoury alliums, bread dough, limestone and white tropical fruits. Bright acidity and a complex finish make this a great choice for dishes such as pork schnitzel and other fried foods.
What we say:
Crisp, precise and wonderfully expressive of the Saar’s cool-climate purity, ‘No. 16’ is a benchmark estate-level dry Riesling that consistently overdelivers. It opens with bright citrus - lemon, grapefruit and lime, alongside green apple, pear and a subtle herbal lift, all underpinned by a clear slate-driven minerality. The aromatics feel clean and focused rather than showy, setting the tone for what follows.
The palate is light to medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with vivid, mouth-watering acidity driving everything forward. There’s a juicy core of orchard fruit, but it’s the tension and minerality that define the wine - racy, crystalline and refreshing, with a long, stony finish. Sourced from a mix of estate and neighbouring parcels on steep, slate-rich slopes around Ayl, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a hands-off style, it captures the essence of Saar Riesling in a more accessible, everyday format.
