Philip Lardot “Der Narre” Pinot Gris – Mosel, Germany

Producer's Notes:

Pinot Gris from a very high elevation, with soils comprised of pure grey slate and quartz. Hand destemmed and fermented on skins for 14 days, 10 months of ageing in barriques. Only 600 bottles made.

What we say:

A wildly characterful and unconventional Pinot Gris from rising-star winemaker Philip Lardot, Der Narre (“The Fool”) shows the Mosel through a completely different lens. Made with minimal intervention, long skin contact, and Lardot’s signature precision, this is an amber-tinged, textural, deeply expressive wine that defies easy categorisation - in the best possible way.

The nose is distinctive and inviting, with notes of mandarin peel, quince, stone fruit, wild herbs, and hints of spice and tea leaf. On the palate, Der Narre is textured and energetic: medium-bodied with gentle tannic grip, lively acidity, and layers of citrus, orchard fruit, and savoury minerality. It’s complex yet playful, serious yet joyful - true to its name.

Grape variety: Pinot Gris

Style: Skin-contact, textural, expressive natural white/amber wine

Drink window: Now–2028

Perfect for: Charcuterie, roasted root vegetables, spicy dishes, cheeses, or anyone exploring the wilder side of the Mosel

Bold, distinctive, and beautifully made - Philip Lardot’s “Der Narre” is a compelling expression of Pinot Gris from one of Germany’s most exciting young winemakers.
