From certified organic vineyards in Voor-Pardeberg region of the Cape Coast, Born of Fire showcases Sophie Schaal’s talent for crafting expressive, finely textured Syrah with a distinctly South African accent. Grown on shale and sandstone soils and made with a restrained, elegant touch, this is Syrah that favours perfume and purity over power.

The wine opens with lifted aromas of violet, black cherry, cracked pepper, and wild herbs, layered with subtle smoky and mineral notes. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and beautifully balanced: silky tannins, bright acidity, and a graceful core of dark berry fruit shaped by spice and savoury nuance. The finish is long, refined, and cool-toned—true to its origin in Elgin’s mountain-cooled vineyards.
