Ziereisen “Heugumber - Carbonic Maceration” Chasselas – Baden, Germany
Hanspeter Ziereisen is known for pushing boundaries, and this limited carbonic-maceration version of Heugumber shows just how playful and expressive Chasselas can be in the right hands. Instead of the classic, gentle, mineral-driven style, this cuvée undergoes full carbonic maceration, giving it a burst of juicy fruit, lifted aromatics, and a light, vibrant personality rarely seen in the grape.
The nose is bright and inviting, with notes of pear, white peach, citrus rind, and a hint of alpine herbs. On the palate, it’s refreshingly crisp and feather-light, offering lively acidity and a soft, subtle fizz of energy from the carbonic method. A stony, mineral echo lingers on the finish, grounding the wine and reminding you of its limestone-rich Baden origins.
Grape variety: Chasselas (Gutedel)
Style: Fresh, aromatic, gently playful carbonic white
Drink window: Now–2026
Perfect for: Aperitif sipping, light salads, sushi, soft cheeses, picnics, or serving well-chilled on warm days. Not going to lie, we'd also love to try this Heugumber with a hamburger!
Bright, charming, and wonderfully easy to drink - Ziereisen’s carbonic Heugumber is a fun, refreshing twist on Chasselas and a delightful surprise for fans of crisp, characterful whites.
