Ziereisen “Schmätterling” Clairet – Baden, Germany
With Schmätterling, Hanspeter Ziereisen delivers a fresh, vivid take on the rarely-seen Clairet style - a deeper, more structured rosé that bridges the gap between light red and full rosé. Made from direct-pressed Spätburgunder and crafted with Ziereisen’s signature minimal-intervention approach, this is a wine that’s both playful and quietly serious.
The nose is expressive and vibrant, offering wild strawberry, pomegranate, redcurrant, and a touch of rose petal, with subtle herbal and mineral undertones. On the palate, Schmätterling is energetic and juicy: medium-light in body with crisp acidity, fine texture, and a dry, refreshing finish that lingers with red fruit and a hint of spice. It’s the kind of wine that can be chilled for aperitif drinking or paired confidently at the dinner table.
Grape variety: Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)
Style: Deeper, structured Clairet-style rosé / light red
Drink window: Now–2026
