Ziereisen “Schmätterling” Clairet – Baden, Germany
With Schmätterling, Hanspeter Ziereisen delivers a fresh, vivid take on the rarely-seen Clairet style - a deeper, more structured rosé that bridges the gap between light red and full rosé. Made from direct-pressed Spätburgunder and crafted with Ziereisen’s signature minimal-intervention approach, this is a wine that’s both playful and quietly serious.
The nose is expressive and vibrant, offering wild strawberry, pomegranate, redcurrant, and a touch of rose petal, with subtle herbal and mineral undertones. On the palate, Schmätterling is energetic and juicy: medium-light in body with crisp acidity, fine texture, and a dry, refreshing finish that lingers with red fruit and a hint of spice. It’s the kind of wine that is made to be drunk right away and can be chilled for aperitif drinking or paired confidently at the dinner table.
Grape variety: Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)
Style: Deeper, structured Clairet-style rosé / light red
Drink window: Drink within 12 months of purchase
